AMP NETCONNECT Success Stories
Hollywood Casino - Penn National Gaming
Penn National Gaming had to prepare for their newest, 365,000 square foot casino. They needed to plan for the next 25 years of technology, expansion and regulatory oversight. With more than 4,000 twisted-pair drops and 15 telecommunications rooms connecting slot machines, workstations, HDTV displays, wireless access points, POS registers, ATMs and more, their consulting firm, Michael Raiser Associates, Inc., recognized the need for meeting not only future application needs, but also the reduction or elimination of network interference. "We concluded that there were multiple reasons for using copper shielded cable," says Michael Raiser, president of Michael Raiser Associates. "Even with the ratification of the 10 Gigabit standard, there is still no proven methodology for 100% end-to-to end Alien Crosstalk testing for UTP at 100 meters. That, coupled with shielded cabling's inherent advantages in significantly reducing EMI and RF interference, made shielded a better choice."
Battaglia Integrated Technologies, a division of
Battaglia Electric, selected Tyco Electronics' AMP NETCONNECT XG 10-gigabit cabling and connectivity systems for installation. The AMP NETCONNECT system is a combination of XG shielded twisted-pair copper cabling, XG 850nm laser-optimized 50-micron multimode fiber, and XG Plus 850nm laser-optimized 50-micron multimode fiber that is capable of supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-SR) beyond 300 meters, and was one of the few solutions Michael Raiser Associates had approved. Add to that the fact that, as an ND&I, Battaglia Integrated Technologies was able to offer the AMP NETCONNECT 25 year warranty, and the AMP NETCONNECT solution was a perfect fit.
